The 14th season of the Plazma Youth Sports Games in Bosnia and Herzegovina has started
Competitions in Vitez, Zavidovići, Gradačac, and Kladanj started the sports activities of the fourteenth Plazma Youth Sports Games in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are planned to be held this year in 46 BH cities.
The introduction to this year’s sports competitions was educational and entertaining workshops held in partnership with the FBiH Fund for Environmental Protection, where boys and girls had the opportunity to learn about the importance of environmental protection. The workshops are part of the project “Zero Waste – be a part of the game, let’s protect our planet,” which Plazma Youth Sports Games implements in cooperation with the Coca-Cola company. The Games and the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina are promoting Olympic values, encouraging the development of friendship, mutual respect, and fair play on the fields throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports sponsors the regional competitions.
Vitez was the first host of the m:tel Sports Day and regional competitions. Over 1,000 girls and boys from the 1st to 5th grade of all elementary schools in the Vitez municipality and neighboring municipalities enjoyed the sports and entertainment program. Best students of the generation and school representatives, together with the mayor Boris Marjanović, lit the flame of the Games, which was followed by competitions in athletics and the Moja Kravica Cup in dodgeball. Medals went to “Vitez,” “Bila,” and “Dubravica” elementary schools, and after these, competitions in indoor soccer and basketball were held.
Zavidovići, now traditionally, hosted a tournament in indoor soccer. Through the partnership with the UEFA Foundation for Children, the Games continue to work this year to promote women’s football and generally encourage as many girls as possible to register for competitions.
“We had a lot of fun today and are delighted that we won first place. We are looking forward to the final in Sarajevo, and we hope to be equally successful there,” said Samija Bečirević from ŽNK Krivaja Zavidovići, who won the Coca-Cola Cup in Zavidovići.
Gradačac has been an integral part of the Games since their inception, and this year marked its 14th time hosting this remarkable sports event. The city’s journey with the Games began with the Pili Cup matches in futsal, and the talented boys from the NK Zvijezda Gradačac team won.
“We won the tournament in our city, and we can’t wait for the competition in Sarajevo. It was great for us because we prefer to be first”, said Bajazit Kikić from the winning team.
Gradačac was a hub of sports diversity, hosting futsal, beach volleyball, and basketball competitions. The JUB Jupol Cup in beach volleyball saw the Vidar and Optima Modriča teams emerge as champions. The Kinder Joy of moving cup in basketball witnessed the Air Ball Masters team dominate the boys’ competition, while the Women’s Lakers team reigned supreme in the girls’ category. The Games, in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the auspices of FIBA, are part of the ‘Her world, her rules’ (#HWHR) campaign, a platform that champions women’s basketball.
The activities of the Games were held for the first time in the municipality of Kladanj, which was a great host of its first m:tel Sports Day. Mayor Jusuf Čavkunović also supported the little ones who lit the Plazma Youth Sports Games with the best elementary school students from the municipality. The special guests of the competition were the users of the Center for Children with Multiple Disabilities “Steps of Hope” from Tuzla. Dodgeball was fiery on the Moja kravica Cup fields, while hundredths decided the 60m race. The medals went to the elementary schools “Kladanj” and “Stupari,” and futsal and basketball competitions were held afterward.
